Health education

Often farmworker communities lack knowledge about preventive health care and community health resources available to them.  The Farmworker Association provides community education and health referrals in the areas of vocational rehabilitation, pregnancy, HIV and STDs, and women’s health issues.

Since 1995, the Sisters/Compañeras (S/C) Program of the Farmworker Association of Florida has been providing maternal health services, including outreach, education, and referrals, to Latina women of child-bearing age in farmworker communities in Central Florida, who are typically uninsured and underserved.  The Sisters/ Compañeras Program provides education about healthy pregnancy and women’s health issues; addresses women’s cultural, psychological, social, and lifestyle factors to promote the health of women’s pregnancies, their births, and their families.
